Phase I of the Shaker Ridge Trails project is the exciting first step in creating a best-in-class trail network in the heart of the Berkshires. Spanning nearly 600 acres of land adjacent to Pittsfield State Forest and Jiminy Peak, this first phase includes the design and construction of approximately 30 miles of sustainably built, mountain bike-optimized trails. These trails are being carefully planned to serve a wide range of users—from experienced riders to families and beginners, including a dedicated loop for adaptive mountain biking to ensure inclusive access to the outdoors.

Construction of Phase I is scheduled to begin in 2024 and continue through 2027. The trail system will be free and open to the public year-round for mountain biking, hiking, trail running, backcountry skiing, and fat biking.

The layout of the trail network centers around several core trail hubs, making it easy for users to navigate and choose from a mix of difficulty levels and trail styles. From scenic ridgelines to flow trails and technical descents, the network is designed to maximize the unique terrain of the region while protecting its natural resources.

Phase I is not just about recreation—it’s a catalyst for community building, economic development, and environmental stewardship. By activating this land with thoughtfully built and well-maintained trails, we’re creating a valuable resource for local residents, supporting nearby businesses, and drawing regional visitors who will contribute to the Berkshires’ economy. It’s the foundation of something much bigger—and we’re just getting started.
