Beginnings

It was late summer 2023, into fall almost.

A few of us sat and talked about a vision of putting a mountain biking destination in the heart of the Berkshire Taconic range and what that would mean. We talked about inspiration from those that had come before us, blazing the regulatory and public relations trails that had lifted mountain biking from being something to fear to something to celebrate. And we acknowledged the advantages that we now enjoy from the patient efforts that preceded us.

But we talked too of the opportunity that that foundation creates for the present — that things don’t have to take decades to come to fruition, that with a vision, some backing and courage, we could create something meaningful quickly.

There were a few properties on the market that might be suitable. And so we resolved to keep talking and quickly investigate what might be done.

We quickly got to work. By December we had a site under consideration. By January, our collaborator funder, Cricket Trails LLC, bought the 550 acre tract in Lanesborough and Hancock, Massachusetts.
